Dreams and Hopes: What makes me want to be an Internationalist Journalist

I have had many dreams so far. For example, I've dreamed of being a nurse, a novelist, a painter, a teacher, and many other things. When I was a junior high school student, the homeroom teacher for my first and second grade class was a great. He had an amusing character, but when we were wrong, he got angry with us. I respected him, and at that time I wanted to become a junior high school teacher.

After that, because of my father's death, I learned that even though I am a woman, I should get some special qualifications. When I was in third grade of junior high school, we had to take entrance examinations for high schools. Because I wanted to enter the School of Law at Chuo University, I decided to enter the Chuo University Suginami High School. My dream was to become a lawyer then.

I entered Chuo University Suginami High School, and my high school life was very interesting. I made many good friends and studied very hard, but my grades were not good. Near the end of my second year in high school, I heard that a new faculty would be established at Chuo University, and we heard a detailed explanation from Dean Atsumi. I was very interested in this new faculty, and my dream changed around that time.

Now I have a dream to become an international journalists The reason I have this dream is as follows.

First, I don't want to become a typical female office worker, because Japanese companies hope female office workers will not work at their company for very long. Moreover, female office workers who have no ability have only one choice: to get married. Even if they become happily married, after their children become independent they have nothing to do except everyday housework, or they may lose their husbands from some disease or by some accident like my mother did.

About five years ago, when my mother lost her husband, she had to make a great effort to earn money to live and to pay for our education. She studied illustration and luckily, still had my father's business connections, so she could get work quickly. If she had no technique and no connections, she could do only part-time work for a small salary. From these incidents I learned the necessity of having some technique or some special qualifications to help me when an accident happens to me.

Second, many crises are breaking out all over the world, such as racial disputes in former Yugoslavia and the northern territorial issue between Russia and Japan. I believe we should cooperate with other countries much more, not only by paying money. However, I do not agree with dispatching the Self- Defense Forces. There are many things which we don't know in the world, and we should know and understand many incidents which happen in other cultures. I hope to go to various countries, see many things there, and introduce the truth about them to many people in the world.

For these reasons, I want to become an international journalist, and I entered the Faculty of Policy Studies in order to achieve my dream. In this faculty we can learn not only one field but also other fields, such as law, economics, the constitution, the environment, history, religion, and data processing. Moreover, the system of English education is very good.

Though I have never been to a foreign country, I want to study abroad someday while I'm in university. I am not a hard-working student, but I want to study many more things around me. There is no knowledge around us that is not useful. My dream is still so far away now, and I have to make more effort to get there. I do not know when and if my dream will change, but my life is long and I want to live hard now to draw near my goal.
